Hope you read your posts today!  I already posted twice about my tel. call late last night formmy cardio he called at 8 pm still working, what a sweet(heart)
He is referringmeto the p with a detailed letter and my strips of the split second heart beat that went into the high 170s then back right down to a normal 85 - he feels it is paroxysmal atrial tach(which I was diag. with 18 yrs ago, and the beta blocker worked perfectly till now) Or he said it is AV Node Re-Entry tach. Either way he said, you are a perfect simple candidate for ablation, get rid of it, wean off the beta blcokers. He feels my beta blocker is still working to some extent, by blocking that split instant spike, that I dont even feel. TOld me take of the event monitor we got what we need, and only put it back on if you have a long solid run of tach...then send it in. He is convinced this can be cured....he said he had to get itdone this is the ep guy he would let touch him....easy to say. I am terrified too just goin to the frigging drs. heart just races going, then settles down. I am heart phobic. I told him I want a CONSULT with this guy, he agreed, and he said he could explain exactly where your problem is.....and give you options. I still want to stay with meds cause Im terrified of ablation cause I have not had alot of positive input with ablation with the exception I think of COllegegirl on here.  He said go ahead go back ot Canada for the summer, relax,no restrictions, your heart iss strong, structually in excellent condition, just have a short circuit and he thinks i probably have had it since I was a kid. He also said you more than likely had those silent spikes for years cause I cant feel them AT ALL. Again he said they WILL NEVER HURT YOU EVER, you just have to live with htem with meds, that might not help. He just felt I would be better off with ablation, wean off the beta blocker and get on with it.  Im too scared........I NEED TO TALK KIDDO.........oh also he said take of the event monitor we got the spikes and reall clear readings that you didnt feel and only put it on when you a a bad run of tach ......he said otherwise, you would be pushing the button everytime you had a spike you didnt fee, we dont kneed them now, and they stress you out....thank God that thing is off me...........SO DEAR GAL, need your input, again, I know at the end of the day its my decision, and when it comes to our tickers............WHOA!!!!!!!  How did you ever get the courage to go through them and WHY did you finally decide to do them, what kind of arrythmia did you have,..........the same as mine??? I need info.  Hope to hear back from you
when your itme permits.
Take care, The Toadster

Hi again. I answered your other post as I worked down the list. A few more notes:
You should try to eat and drink normally please or your electrolyte balance could go out of whack. You know what happens then? More arrhythmias.

Hysterectomy - I'm menopausal now (yippee!) but I do know hormone changes can trigger the arrhythmias, cause them to act up more than usual. Perhaps that's what you're going through since it was a sudden hormonal change.

Meds - I've read that many people have to switch meds after awhile since they seem to lose their effectiveness. That's one reason I choose not to take any meds at all. Beta blockers are a no-no for me since I have asthma. Tried calcium channel blocker Verapamil. That was horrible and I ended up in ER. No thanks. I'll live with my tachy times.

My ablations were done at a medical university by the head cardio. Electrophysiology just happened to be his specialty.

Can't recommend a place in Austin but I love the city. Beautiful place. My son is in Portland, TX near Corpus. Not the same but he's happy to be closer to San Antonio and Austin than being in Oregon.

Cute name - thanks so very much dear one for your comforting words.  This event monitor thingie is just a week old on me, and to have my heart go into svt at 179 for one minute while I slept, didnt even wake me up, scared the pants off me.  Thank you also for your own personal info.  I am really interested in the ablation you had....do you still have problems, how SAFE is it, where did you have it done, etc. I would want THEE BEST to do it IF i have to.  I guess card. will be calling me Thursday didnt get his call today. It sure tells me that our hearts can do anything anytime inour sleep and we dont even know it.  Am glad to hear about the svt if we have to have something, I just want it to GO AWAY, dont do well with the "heart" thing. Anything else, bring it on, this is my weakness.   Where did you have your ablation done, I do know there are risks, and I wonder what the percentages are. Do they try new meds first as I think my cardio is going to do now....to see if it will control it again?  Also I was asking being on a beta blocker  for 19 years then out of hte blue it is not doing its job.....strange eh?(canadian girl here) a very frightened one. I want to go home for the summer from Maui here and i will be alone if he changes or adds to my beta blockers.....would you, I know everybodyis different, I just want "control" of my little biddy heart.   Also my daughter lives in AUstin TX>< does anybody know of an incredible heart center there I could go to?? ON Maui here we are EXTREMELY limited.   Waiting ot hear with hugs of gratitude....now another night to get through...............Toadster

Hi there thanks somuch for your note.  Well more news........sooooo scared and its consuming me. I cant help it. I had two more episodes on my event monitor last night, i was totaly awake, and noticed it was recording so I sent it in to the medical center.  My card.'s nurse called me this am. She said it spiked up to 170 bpmfor a few seconds then corrected itself.......I am mystified..Ihad NO symptoms,I checked my pulse at the time it was 85. I would NEVER have known it even happened, the warning beeper didnt even go off.  My card. looked at the readings this am and is referring them to the electrop guy in Honolulu for a second opinion. He lefta message on my voice mail last night, NOT LIFE THREATENING, GO TO SLEEP, DONT WORRY, its atrial tachycardia, but he said hewants a second opinion from the electrophysiologist to see what to do.  I AM worse today than yesterday, am baffled, is this a goood thing Im wearing this monitor?? He now wants me on 25 mgs of toprol at night for 3-4 days to see if itsettles these breakthroughs, and then if I tolerate it, increase to 50 at night to ward off the fatigue........I AM TERRIFIED>  I am alone here with hubby but dont know a soul......please can anybody else offer any reassurance. I have convinced myself IM A GONER......
Im so sorry..............Kathy

I know you are scared, and rightfully so, but you need to take a breath sweety, a DEEP one... I know its your heart and thats scary but, in the grand scheme of things, if you had to pick a heart "problem" to have.. you'de want svt, its not lifethreatning, AND in certain types, its 98% curable with ablation... i had the ablation myself and it was easy, and a real life changer... Different meds work in different ways for different people, one may work 100% for you, or it may not work at all..  the first line of defense would be beta blockers or calcium channel blockers... Working yourself up this much is just going to make things worse.. Stress takes a heavy toll on your body.. If you;ve had a full cardiac work up, you're likely fine and your doctor will most likely tell you to continue on with your life as if nothing was wrong... in the majority of cases, the MENTAL symptoms associated with SVT are the debilitating ones, not the physical symptoms... i hope your doctors call brings you solice.. in the mean time, try and stay calm.. You've got a whole forum filled with people here who are going through or have gone through exactly the same thing you are, and we're all still alive and kickin! hang in there

Hi Ian, Tony's doing OK. He was out of town for a bit plus had some testing of his own to be done. You can catch the news at the old place (you know how to get in?)

Toadster - if a few seconds of atrial tachy makes you a goner, then I've been dead for years. Really, it's OK; you'll be OK. I understand this may be new to you and you worry about the future. But until you get some answers from the doctor it won't do you any good to sit and wait and watch the monitor. Don't become a pulse taker. Get up and out of the house. If you knew you were going to die tomorrow (none of us know for sure) would you spend your time sitting and waiting or would you choose to live and make memories? The docs have it under control and know what's going on. They will do what they can. You can do your part by staying busy and less stressed. You will feel better that way. Take a breath and smile for me. :-)

Hugs back to you and thank you from my "heart"......lol   Interesting re our hysterectomies, I too, was feeling on top of the world pre op - was still onmy beta blocker but has NO tach, NOTHING for years and years and then in the recovery room it took off, ended up in the cardiac ward for a week, it sat in the high nineties to 105-they gave me imodarone which I didnt like only took it for five days, put me through everything they could and declared me fit.  So what do we do now? Is it a trial and error for these heart guys, trying us on all of this stuff...so with the meds you are on you still are getting break through of high tach?
Can you go on with life safely and do whatever......why did your dr. tell yo?
As I posted I am so confused, terrified, and do they ever find a good controlling med!!!! Love to hear back, I cant eat, since today with this, cant think, cant focus, just waiting for the call. I suppose the event monitor people and my cardios nurse would of sprung into action if it was dangerous, she said he may call you tomorrow.........oh what an eternity, it is after all our hearts...........
THanks so much

Just wanted to offer you some (((hugs)) as you sort through things.  One thing I will tell you is that I never had PVCs etc. unless you count a few fast beats after staying up way too late and drinking way too much caffeine.  But, after my hysterectomy in November, the SVTs, PVCs etc. all started and I can't for the life of me get them to stop.  We tried an ablation but they couldn't induce the arrhythmia (in my opinion sedated me WAY too much...I was O.U.T.).  I have been on Toprol XL, Calcium blockers and am on my 3rd level of Flecainide. As I type, I sit with just as many symptoms as before.  Very frustrating for sure.   I think there is a definite link to the hysterectomy but noone seems to draw the same conclusion.  Gee, I don't know though.  I was perfectly fine, had the surgery and all of a sudden these symptoms.  Sometimes I just scratch m head.  LOL  Hang in there and go see someone else if you aren't getting satisfaction.  Hang in there.
