WHY WHY WHY?

My question is, With all the money that we spend on health care each year, why isn't there something that our medical doctors can come up with besides narcotics to treat those of us who suffer from these awful palpitations?
As a wife and mother of 3, it is very frustrating waking in the middle of the night and worrying if I will die from these symptoms in my sleep. I have suffered from fibromyalgia years before they had given it a name. The pains are unbelieveable but they do nothing compared to the increased heart palpitations that I have suffered over the last 3 months. If I bend over to retrieve something from the floor, I have these palps. If I shower or sneeze, etc. they come. I sit up late at night trying to go to sleep as late as possible to avoid the palps. To little or no avail. My doc keeps saying, ANXIETY! What could I possibly be anxious about in my sleep? I've had all the tests done and my heart is healthy. I've also suffered from pain streaming down my left arm and into pressure points in my hand during these palps and my doc says, its ANXIETY!! I'd like for him to feel this just once and then tell me that it's anxiety. I've learned that what works best for me is PRAYER, reading the bible and praying helps me to make it through. I wish every sufferer the best. God bless

I'm back again after an adventurous few months. During the month of April a bood vessel burst in my left thigh. I wen through hell trying to heal. The palps were unbearable atop of the fever, pain and mental anguish that I endured. Ok, so I stopped all meds, stopped going to the doctor, begin to drink apple juice w/1 tsp of apple cider vinegar and my palps STOPPED.
I was feeling great, my leg healed and I was atop of the world in August. I made the mistake of going to a breakfast engagement and wore a panty girdle..I suffered for it and went to the doc to find relief, he once again handed me aciphex. Little did I know that this was the culprit that caused me the blood vessel burst in the first place, until I took the second pill. Palps have returned, the swelling in my thigh has returned, my hip is feeling as if its coming out of the socket, not to mention the back pain, bloating, belching, frequent urination, diarrhea, green stools, lethargy, headaches, etc.
Now I'm back to ticknatnite...ALLNITE
When I first received the aciphex, I was told there were no side effects...now there is a whole list of them including high bp, increased or discreased heart rate, blood clot in the lungs, etc.
I'm so pissed at my doc for prescribing this to me and not WARNING ME.. he told me there'd be no side effects. I would like to take this time to everyone doing your research before taking ANY MEDS.

God Bless

you can be anxious in yuor sleep you might be having dreams/nightmares that you can't remember.(just a thought)
as to your other  question, the research doctors are researching so much on everything evry day of our lives. they might coe up with a solution soon, this is why most things have trial periods. then it gets FDA appproved. then it can be put out on hte market sometimes the reasearch in't perfect and they have badoutcomes most times they are fine but these things taek time for everything that goes wrong from diseases to whatever they are doing research my sister in law spent 75 hours aweek alone rearching aids and trying to find a cure matter of fact she just got back from Spain doing some research. I wished they can find a way to treat ALL cancers and all heart aliments but unfortunatley it takes time and $$.
if you feel your doctor isn't listening to you and you feel it isn't anxiexty and you don't want to be treated with that type of medication try a holistic doctor , and find one that will definately  listen to you. it may take time to find one that will listen to you. trust me it took me 3 1/2 years to find one that would listen to me
good luck

this doc that you see for your palps....are you seeing a cardiologist? or is it your regular mdoc telling you that it's anxiety?  i take a calcium channel blocker to help with my palps....it does help tremendously (not 100%; but a lot).  also i know that if my potassium gets too low, they get worse.
just something else to throw into the mix here.....take care & good luck!

palps are a pain in the rear.. had them for years!
try this it works to calm your system down and helps to stop palps.. Natural Calm powder drink  aval at all natural stores . I dont sell it , but iv use it everyday it works !
really helps to stop the palps.  I also take a good multi vitamin  that helps too !

im not a woman, so dont know beans about Menopause.  but do know about palps
and rapid heart beats !

I had one Doctor years ago , tell me there is a drug out there that stops palps.. and is made for palps ?  to date im stuck a ccb or beta blocker to stop the palps.
however due to adverse side effects im having now.. will be seeking Natural meds and
care..  fingers crossed they work !
as I am totaly sick and tired of how these medical plans work or dont work !  you pay
and pay.. more and more.. and get less and less !  and to be honest the care stinks !
doctors are more like modern day drug pushers !  always treating symptoms first..
and not the problem !!
oh well..  we all know that story !

the system is broken !

take care and well wishes.. God bless ..

Menopause can start as early as 40 years old. For me, I was 35! eek!

Your doctor should test you for thyroid disease, esp with your symptoms. A normal TSH is around 1.5 for someone without thyroid disease.

thank you for your post. I read about women starting peri-menopause in their 20s. I'm thinking that a lot of our physicians are either not caring or just think that we all are plain nuts that should be medicated when we have symptoms that they can not order surgery for. LOL

again thanks

I am sorry to hear that you are going through the same situation.
I am learning to meditate and to stop owning the disease{fibromyalgia} so that I can enjoy my life. If we do not feed into the symptoms, we overcome it. Meditation, exercise, along with another change in the way I eat has caused the symptoms to not be as overwhelming. I've decided to take control over this and CONQUER it completely without the use of meds.

I wish you the best my friend. God bless

LOL@your gyn. I went through menopause at 37.  I was tested to be sure and I was full blown menopausal.

Good luck to you!

I had the same thing - horrible palpitations for over a year (along with a host of other awful symptoms).  Woke me up or didn't let me sleep most every night.  Made my days miserable. Find a good Naturopathic physician as soon as you can.  Work with them in conjunction with your regular MD and I'll bet you'll see improvements very quickly.

read my question that I posted and you'll see your not the only one, I too can't sleep and do exactly what you do by sitting up at night trying to wait for them to die down so I can at least sleep a little. Then I get woken up in the night by them.

thanks for the advice. I had been talking to my mom about my problems and she too recommend that I'd try some magnesium and calcium. I'm not sure if I started perimenopause in my early 30s. Unfortunately, I have a different gyn now, he tells me that at age 40, it's impossible to experience menopause..sheesh! I am awaiting new insurance in April so that I can change gyn docs. Again, thanks for the advice, I'll let you know how it goes. God bless

Are you getting enough calcium and vitamin D?  This is a problem that I think is often over looked.  I discovered this going through menopause.  I read somewhere that heart palpitations can be caused by a lack of calcium and Vitamin D. I startind taking it and they went away.   If you aren't taking any, try taking 1200 to 1600mgs per day (take 1/2 the amount 2 times a day)
