Water Pills, Water Pills, Water Pills!!!

Hi All—

My mother had a major heart attack and subsequent quadruple bypass over nine months ago. I have little family, but the people on this website got me through, so thank you.  

Since her surgery, my mother has returned to the hospital on two separate occasions—the first time to get a stent and the second for severe chest pains. At that time, MD findings were “inconclusive” as to the cause of her chest pains; however, additional tests revealed that her potassium was extremely low.

At present, my mom takes three to five water pills—she is not retaining a significant amount of water, but the MD is now saying that she may need to take water pills for the rest of her life. Furthermore, she is only permitted (2) eight oz glasses of water per day which seems ratter strange in my book…

Does anyone know how long someone should be on water pills post surgery? It doesn’t seem right to me that my mom should be taking so many water pills.

After mom’s surgery, it seemed logical to me that she would have been prescribed potassium supplements. However, the MD only prescribed potassium supplements After her recent trip to the ER.

I obviously don’t have much faith in her MD…
