What is DMR?

by CGTMHI, May 20, 2000 12:00AM
My name is Joe I have had 8 caths performed and have 5 stents in place, one 100% blocked  50% blocked.  I still have angina and my doctors have suggested either TMR or DMR I am familiar with the first but not the second they say it is not yet approved.  I would like to know the good and bad points of both and receive some feedback from some one who may have had it done.  Does it just relieve angina or do they have more benefits.  I also have two valves that are leaking slightly.

Please advise because I am confused and upset.

Thank You

Dear Joe,

TMR ( transmyocardial revascularization) is an open surgical procedure that creates holes in the myocardium to theoretically bring more blood to the myocardium.  PMR is percutaneous myocardial revascularization which is done through a catheter much as your original caths and uses laser. I believe that this is what you might be referring to.

For more information, you might wish to contact Dr. Patrick Whitlow here at CCF to see if you may be a candidate for some of his protocols involving PMR.

thes procedures are still under investigation.  You may wish to consider whether CABG +/- TMR and valve repair may be a better more definitive way to go.

Hi,  I am a new angina (?) sufferer.  I have had a cardiolyte stress test which was inconclusive.  I did have some EKG changes etc.  The thing that concerend the doctor performing the test was that my b/p went up to 235/138 and stayed there during the duration of the test.  He did tell me that the only diagnostic way to tell about the heart was to do a heart cath.  Since that time I have intermittent pain that has changed in character.  It starts in the mid sternum and goes to the left arm -a pressure sensation- like I have a blood pressure cuff on my arm.  Does anyone have any symptoms like this?  I tried to post a new thread but kept getting the sign that the limit was achieved for the day.
