What is "Gerd"

Can anyone tell me what Gerd is, not a term used here in the U.K.    I have serious palpitations (are they PVC's) after serius indigestion.   Also I have noticed extreme muscle  weakness after eating carbs.   As the heart is a muscle, could this also cause the heart to be weakened and palpitations follow?  Any comments welcome.    Thank you.  Palps.

Hello, thank you for your views, my palppitations almost always follow a carbo. meal and indigestion.   I have had my heart checked many times,  and no-one seems worried. Although I am now on Tildiem, but I am trying to come off via my doc.  Don;t believe in drugs, unless there is a 'heart' problem proper.  Thanks again  Palps.

GERD is acid reflux.  I have Silent reflux (no heartburn but damage to the esophogus).  I have experienced palpatations as well as chest pressure (my doctors are willing to concede the chest pressure is due to the reflux but remain noncommittal about the palps).  I personally believe they are related to the reflux.  I had a complete cardiac work-up though and my suggestion to you would be to do the same.  It's best to rule out heart problems first and foremost.  It'll give you peace of mind at any rate.  Good luck to you.
