What tests determine or rule out pericarditis causes

by ecogroovyn, May 05, 2009 09:03PM
From my husband, 52 year old active male, low cholesterol-(129 on statins), good artery scan~~~
I have reoccurring pericarditis at first maybe once every couple of years but I got a case of it in Feb this year and now again in today.  It was originally diagnosed at stanford hospital ER I didn't have another attack for years so I though it was one off.  I now have had several bouts in the last few (4+) years each of them closer to the last, now just months apart and now they come with high fevers (101.7 on indocin and tylenol)
Should I be doing some tests while I am in the middle of an attack? I would like to get to the bottom of this.  Is there connection to Herpes? What blood tests or other tests should I do: Lyme, thyroid, lupus mycoplasma, hepatitis, mono...bacteria, parasites????

Also, I am looking for a cardiologist that is a good detective and that specializes in pericarditis , can you recommend one that can help in Portland, OR or Newport Beach, CA area?

THANKS
