What will this test indicate

I will be receiving a stress test tomorrow.  I have been diagnosed with mitro valve prolapse about 13 years ago.  Lately, I've been experiencing a noticiable tightness in my upper chest with no real pain, followed by what seems to be gas or indigestion and clammy palms.  Heart disease does run in the family and my doctor suggested the test.  My question is, if there is a noticible problem, how does this test indicate the problem ?  I am a 41 year old male, about 178 pounds.

This test will determine if there are areas of your heart that are not receiving adequate blood flow through using an imaging test either a thallium or a PET scan or sometimes and echo.
