Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome

by Diane__0__0, Mar 15, 1999 12:00AM

I was hospitalized last year with a bad episode of WPW. Heart rate 300 bpm and it took 5 hours for them to get it stabilized. I had a bad reaction to Procanimine and was hospitalized for 2 weeks for throwing up. Consequently I had a catheter ablation so I wouldn't have this problem again. I had 4 episodes since, however my electrophysiologist did not think I could have even though I assured him that I had. I ended up back in the ER with a bad episode last week and my Primary Care Physician thinks I should have the ablation done again. I do not want to go back to the same doctor or CMC in Scranton. Would you recommend any particular hospital in PA for this procedure. Since I have HMO I probably will only be able to go to Hershey Medical Center or Geisinger, Danville. Do you know anything about these 2 hospitals in relation to doing ablations? Or do you know HOW I can find out. I checked both websites and they really don't tell me anything about ablations in particular. I went into the first ablation blind, just going where I was told to go and I don't want to do that again, but I don't know where to find the answers! Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Diane
From what I understand, Hershey Medical Center has excellent electrophysiologists. They should be able to first determine whether you would be best served by a repeat ablation, and then perform it if necessary.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE or inquire online by using the Heart Center website at www.ccf.org/heartcenter.   The Heart Center website contains a directory of the cardiology staff that can be used to select the physician best suited to address your cardiac problem.
