Wolffe-Parkinson-White Syndrome

by Bety-Fields, May 30, 1998 12:00AM
1.With WPW are there any contraindications for dental treatment?
2.Is it safe to do treatment on a patient with WPW?
3.A medline search produced no information, can you tell me where to find some information?
4.What medications are used to treat this syndrome?
  thank you

Dear John
There is no simple answer to your question. If your only manifestation of WPW is an abnormality on the EKG and you have no personal or family history of cardiac problems, dental treatments are probably OK. If you have symptoms of arrhythmias or passing out, then you need to be evaluated by a cardiologist anyway. Th optimal treatment of this syndrome, when treatment is necessary, is radiofrequency catheter ablation.
I hope this has been useful. Feel free to write back with further questions. Good luck.
