Zithromax and heart

I just finished a 5 day z pack that was prescribed for a sinus infection that was giving me severe headaches. My heart started to feel funny and I looked at the insert which said could cause irregular hearbeats. I've taken this medication in the past with no issue. I do not have any cardiac disease but I do smoke, should I just wait for about 5 days to see if once the meds are out of my system I'm ok, or should I go see a doctor or go to the ER?  My blood pressure is normal 98/70 but I've always been on the low side and my pulse was 90. It doesn't feel like palpitations just a strange feeling like my heart isn't beating right. I only feel it on and off. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

It is not possible to diagnose via internet but if you felt a lot of palpitations during a time of taking zithromax I would recommend seeing your doctor and having at least ecg done.
I would go the ER if you have  prolonged  palpitations and/or lightheadedness or syncope.
Although you may feel palpitations from other reasons, rarely Zithromax may make susceptible individuals to have an arrhythmia and I would recommend you to see your doctor even if symptoms resolved few days after stopping the drug.
With best wishes

Hi, I have read your post and understand that you had taken a full course of Zithromax? Yes as thru my own experience I have history of bad arrhythmia all these years and cos of possible Long QT syndrome, I am not allowed to take too much of this antibiotic from the macrolide group for fear of prolonging the QT more on ECG. This will give rise to a deadly cardiac rhythm called Torsades de pointes which I had few years ago. If you have no history of heart rhythm problems before but feel some heart irregularities during the course of Zithromax, you should still check with a cardiologist to see if your ECG is normal. That is, if you are still on the drug or if not still feeling the abnormal beats. It is always good to just check to give yourself a peace of mind. Although this syndrome is really rare, you could have other common arrhythmia issues that the antibiotic has just triggered? Hope you feel better soon! Take care....
