ablation

Hi! I wanted to know if anyone had a heart ablation for s.v.t. I have had 2 attacks over the past 2 years, that braught me to the e.r. I went to the doctor, and he said that this was an option for me. The doctor believes that it gets worse when you get older. I have been on toprol for the past 2 years and I still had an attack. I went to the hospital with a heartrate of 225. Please let me know if anyone has had this procedure. Thank you!!

Many people have had an ablation. I've had 3. There are others on the arrhythmia board that have had their ablation just within the past couple weeks. Plenty of experience to draw on. I went in the first time because I was having tachy times almost every day, sometimes several times a day but only a HR of 190. They went in to ablate and found PAC's, PVC's, PSVT and some atrial flutter. Got the flutter I think. The PSVT came back. Had to go back 2 more times. I still have PSVT but not so bad. When I wore the monitor recently I had 42 tachy times that month but only 150 bpm - 198 bpm. Sounds worse than it is. My times only last a minute or so. I feel so much better actually. Many people are cured completely. My heart just happens to be a brat but it's behaving better now.

The procedure itself isn't so bad, just sounds worse than it is. They do give you meds so you float in and out of consciousness. Most people remember going in to the room and getting things ready but then poof! it's over. Check with the arrhythmia board. You'll see.

Hi!!  I just came home from the hospital on Wednesday from an ablation.  I took medicine for 4 years but lived with the SVT and WPW for most of my life.  You could always suggest to your doctor that you would like to try different medicines, or the surgery is always an option.  I am glad that I had the surgery, but some people are unfortunate to have to have if done more that once.  There are risks either way, medicine or surgery, but try to weigh out all the pros and cons to each and hopefully it will guide you in the right direction.  Good Luck!    Jess13

Thank you so much for your answer! I know I do not have the attacks that often but when they come the really scare me. Did it bother you when they had to race your heart to see were the problem was coming from? I also have alot of skipped beats,I wonder if an ablation would help. I have been on toprol for 2 years, and still a couple of weeks ago went to the er with a heartrate of 220/per minnute.Thank you for yor advice.

I've had 2 ablation procedures for SVT and they did help as I'm not having to go to the ER all the time now for extremely fast heart rates (220+).
The procedure wasn't really scary at all...I was pretty much knocked out for both of mine and spent the night in the hospital (just a doctors preference)...but I know that some are done out-pt.

Good luck!

my svt returned after my 1st ablation...the docs tried meds; but it didn't help and they decided to do a 2nd procedure.  i've since had to go back on meds but it's not as bad...i've been told i can't have a 3rd procedure that i would have to have a pacemaker if it got bad again.

how bad did the palps get after 1st ablation and how long was it before palps returned after 1st ablation. i'm fairly sure my palps returned about 2 weeks after my ablation and have been getting progressively worse since then.
