Hi EF is left ventricle Ejection Fraction. It is a measurement of how much blood leaves the ventricle on each pump. The ventricle does not fully empty! So dont worry, 60% is great. Normal range is 55 - 70% , So your in good order. (If it were real low it would be Heart Failure), and this would mean that not enough oxygenated blood is being pumped to your vital organs around the body. Then it usually causes symptoms like shortness of breadth , Exercise tolerance would be limited and Fatigue would also become an issue. Your fine. When I went to the Er mine was 15% ! its improved to 45% now TG.
thanks tacolino for your reply - My bp readings which I take once a week, hover between 160/85 - 155/80 - meds - crestor, diltiazem, valsartan. I'd
like the readings to be lower 140/80 (would good at my age) I'm reasonably active 1/2 daily walk, yoga stretches on waking and mostly vegetarian with the occasional chicken meal thrown in the mix! By the way, what does EF 60% mean? Cheers, I'll keep you posted with whatever results come my way!
Hi, You will need further investigation. Cardiac MRI can be done, Echo may also assist. But the Angio is probably what you will need. Look, its not too bad. The good news so far is a great EF, 60%. Also good result regarding left ventricle. Try and keep positive, you will get to the bottom of the problem im' sure. As a matter of interest, what are your BP numbers like?
Do you take any meds currently?
Hi ed 34, thanks for your prompt reply, I'll wait and see what the cardio man comes up with and keep you posted with updates - having read your replies to other questions on this forum, I understand your a "fan" of angiograms having had the procedure several times, however, is there another test the cardio could suggest to detect heart defects or blockages b
Before an invasive test such as an angiogram ?
I think he may say you need an angiogram but it can wait for a few weeks.
