about bicuspid vulve and ascending aneurysm surgery

HI,
My doctor has advised me to do aortic bicuspid vulve surgery at the same time he does my ascending aneurysm repair. I am wondering, do I have to do my vulve surgery now ( since no problem has seen in my vulve at this time) or I should wait? My doctor says I will have vulve problem 15-20 years later, for which I need heart surgery again. I am so confused. Please let me know, if anybody kows anythinh about it.
Thanks in advance.

Doctors usually want to do all that they can when they do open heart surgery.  The average person can only be opened up 2 to 3 times in your life.  One thing to think about is that in about 12 years doctors will be able to replace valves through angioplasty.  They are doing this already, but running into heavy bleeding in patients.  I would get a second opinion.  Aortic valve replacement is not an easy surgery, valves are complex.  The aneursym alone is a big surgery. How badly is the aortic valve leaking?  Is there any calcium on the valve?  Have you ever had radiation?  Have to consider all these questions.

double post.  I will add to this post the growth of an aneursym is 0.5 cm every 6 months to a year.  When the size exceeds 5.0, there is serious consideration to surgery.  The valve does not necessarily need to be repaired or replaced, but during surgery that would be a decision of the surgeon not the doctor.

I just had open heart surgery to replace aortic valve and repair aneurized ascending aorta on Sept. 25.  Yes it is painful surgery, but getting everything done all at once is best.  Then you have no worries in the future and you only have to be opened up once!  I was down and feeling miserable for about 4 weeks, then started to have big improvements everyday.  I was actually taking care of myself, by myself, after 2 weeks.  Went back to work after 2 months and would have been back sooner, but husband wouldn't let me return sooner.
Good Luck and remember that the doctors really do know best what needs to be done.

He is not a family doctor, he is a cardiovascular thoracic surgeon, who did recommend to do both Bicuspid vulve replacement and aortic aneurym repair called "bentall procedure". Iam 34 years male, with no other medical and surgical history except high blood pressure.

Thanks
