I have a history of environmental allergies and occassional wheezing I also smoked up til 3 days ago...last week i had developed nasal congestion with wheeze after using a vacuum and dusting a room that was pretty dusty...the wheeze was more of an issue in re to not being able to get all the mucous up I never really had this happen before...i started myself on albuterol and flovent which i did for 6 days with not much relief...i tried breathing hot water mist with no real help...i made myself cough frequently to help open me up but that didnt help...i planned on seeing my md monday...saturday night i had a few beers and sun i woke with a headache and a little nauseated...made myself vomit and felt better...then vomited again and then i felt my heart fluttering that wouldnt go away...within the hour i went to the er and was diagnosed with afib...treated with diltazem (sp?) and converted after 9 hrs...in the hospital was also started on prednisone which has helped me to cough up mucous still some wheeze ( day 3)..My ? is do you think this resulted from the wheezing and inability to clear my mucous with making myself cough for a week and try to clear (this is the first time this happened), or having a few beers and forcing myself to vomit? One dr said could be due to my lung issue( my cxr was normal and echo was normal and bloods normal) one said probably from albuterol and having had a few drinks....may never come back.....The lung issue had me concerned and just would like your thoughts...........thank you in advance

Sorry to hear about your recent episode of atrial fibrillation. This episode of atrial fibrillation could have been triggered by the alcohol intake and the albuterol. I would consider being evaluted by a cardiologist and having a holter monitor study done to determine whether or not you are have asymptomatic episodes of atrial fibrillation. This is important because atrial fibrillation increases a person's risk of stroke. Depending on your age and other medical conditions you may be a candidate for anticoagulation. You should discuss this with your cardiologist. I would recommend avoiding caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and stimulants such as those found in decongestants. Hope this helps.
