after quadruple bypass surgery

my husband is 46 yrs.old and he had a quadruple bypass surgery last nov.22,2010,my husband now is in milan italy,im from the philippines. is it normal that after his surgery he sleeps for 5 days? how long before he back to normal?...please respond, thank you.

So he is out of hospital and back at home?
Aneasthetic can affect some people more than others and make them tired for several days. After surgery lasting several hours, the gases tend to absorb into body tissue in some people and this takes time to be removed, essentially mildly anaesthetising you for a few days making you very tired. I wake up very quickly from anaesthetic, on more than  one occassion before surgery is completely finished. Do you know what medication he is on?

I agree with ed on this one...your husband only had surgery a couple of weeks ago and often times it takes a couple of weeks for the meds to wear off.  If he is on some type of medication that could be the culprit here that it is causing him to become groggy.  As far as how long it takes him to become normal only the doc can tell you specifically with his situation and all that is involved how long it will take him to recover.....the great news is that bypasses give people a new lease on life and a friend of mine had a quad bypass 15 years ago and does four times as much as i do with me never having one...so congrats are in order to you and your family but i would definately call his doctor and tell him these concerns that you have...good luck to you both.....
