my father who is 59 years old had 1 stent placed in his artery.in last October 2010..after tht he continued to have fever ever after he was discharged (while still having low grade fever)...one week later he was again admitted to hospital for fever.he was then diagnosed with staph infection..he stayed in hospital for 3 weeks for his fever..since his operation he has never been able to recover from his weakness..even though all tests are fine..he continuously complains of fatigue and leg weakness, legs shivering .he even got a fever today   moreover he is also stressed about his office work.all the time .i want to know if this is the sign of some other problem..could it be cancer or its just tht he has been rendered weak by all the anti-biotics he took during his staph infection ? his post-op tests have been fine till april...but he hasnt gone for his next appointment

Having a persistent fever is never normal. There are a number of causes for fevers -- infection, inflammation, blood clots, and/or malignancy. Given that your father has been hospitalized a number of times over the past several months, he should have a thorough work-up to rule out any persistent causes -- especially in the setting of bacteremia. The source of his staph infection is also very important to ensure that this has been controlled.
