anxiety

by robert883, Jun 16, 2008 09:59AM
Hi, I don't know if I can be of much help but, I am 20 years old and I have had many of the same symptoms. I think for me it is anxiety but im not 100% sure aswell, I have got blood work not EKG, but my blood came back normal, and the doctor told me the same thing that I was just having anxiety or panic attacks. But I do have lots of times where my heart skips beats, like a hic'up, and bad chest pains to where I almost can't take it, and I have had my heart racing so fast where I almost pass out and can barely breathe. So I think it could be anxiety.

Is it just anxiety or do the doctors just not know?

Hi robert883,

Is your comment in response to another post?  It looks like you are trying to respond to another poster and I want to be sure your post is seen.

Have you mentioned the near pasing out episodes to your doctor?  While the symtoms can be associated with anxiety, they are annoying and sometimes scary.  No EKG?  Echocardiogram?  The fact that you feel faint with a racing heart might warrant another checkup with the doctor.  You could ask about wearing a heart monitor so you could record your heart's activity duirng an episode.  That could really help pinpoint the cause of what's going on.  Don't be surprised if the diagnosis (anxiety/panic) remains the same, but the fact that the doctor can see what you are feeling may give you peace of mind.

good luck

Hi Robert,
I know it might not be the same, however we have a 4 year old with several small heart issues. his heart will drop way down then it can go as high as 200. he does have chest pain and he does feel his heart in his throat, now the doctor the we sopke to said that a raing heart beat can be normal and many many people have a skip to their pulse. that that CAN be normal BUT it depends on how long the skip is. if iit is for 2.5 seconds or longer then they want to investigate more Chris' is only 1.5
I agree with momto3, request a hotler monitor(does this happen every day?) if not maybe you should request an event monitor. the difference is a holter you wear consistantly for 24-48 hours (depends on how long your doctor wants you to have it for) the event monitor you have for 30 days, however you don't wear it all the time only put it up to your chest when you are symptomatic.
they do EGK's on Chris all of the time and have never caught ihs heart rate low or high it wasn't until they did the holter and they did it due to him dropping is heart rate so low he passed out.
If the doctor won't order it saying it won't be necessary tell him/her it would make you feel better knowing that you had it done. blood work doesn't show an arrythmeia.
good luck

Thank you both for your information, this will help alot, I am going to go to the doctors tomorrow and see what they can do for me and if i can get an 'event monitor' cause it doesn't happen every day, it is pretty random, but when it does it can be really bad. I have mentioned to the doctor before that I have almost passed out, but he said that's just from my anxiety and the overwhelming feeling thinking that your going to die. But it's hard to believe its just anxiety when I have really bad chest pains and when my heart skips, I'm not sure how long it skips for I am going to go get that checked out aswell, but it does feel like a long time sometimes. Once again thank you both for your information, means alot to me! This is a great website.
