The aortic valve is a one-way opening between the left ventricle (pumping blood chamber) and system vessels.  Insufficiency, indicates the aortic valve is not properly closing and blood leaks back into the pumping chamber rather go into the system.  The leaflets that close over the valve opening may be calicified and/or the opening is calcified.  This condition is not unusual as a person ages, and mild to moderate degree of non-compliance is usually not a medical problem, but the doctor will watch for any progression.  If moderate to severe disorder, there may be symptoms of shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, etc. and may require intervention.
