aortic valve and root replacement

aortic valve and root replacement

I had my aortic valve and root replaced last year. I am a 44 year old male and I walk 3 miles a day. I try to lead an active lifestyle. My question is regarding weightlifting, will doing this cause damage to my new valve in any way? I now have a homograph valve. I used to lift weights prior to my surgery, but now I am feeling a little worried about damage. What do you suggest I do to keep muscle tone? I would like to get 15 years or more out of my valve. Do you suggest taing vitamins? If so, which are the best ones to take? I take Zestril once a day, 20mg and 1 baby asprin per day.  I'm lifting light weights now but would like to increase a little. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Of course you should clear it with your doctor but in general there are no restrictions on weight lifting following valve replacement.  I would recommend a multivitamin such as centrum.
