artery severed in bypass surgery

Vascular question..during my double bypass surgery the doctor cut the innominent artery by mistake, said that it could not be repaired and closed it off,  are there going to be any long term effects from this? Or is it something I should not worry about. I have read that it supplies blood to the arm, neck and brain. They told me I could not get an IV on my left side due to this severed artery. Also it has been 8 months and I still have alot of bruising and all my veins are ontop of the skin on the left side, will this go away?

I hope he meant that he cut the vein not the artery.  If he cut the artery your arm would become ischemic and potentially half of your brain would be gone.  So he probably meant to say the vein.  There will be collateral circulation that will form to drain your right arm.  This is why currently your veins are really prominent.  Is there lots of swelling in your arm?  This should get better as times goes on.

Well, both doctors told me the artery, one time I said vein and they corrected me and said no, artery. I will have to look in the report and double check. But if it is the artery should I be seeing someone about the effects ?? and what type of doctor.  I have swelling ontop of shoulder and in the arm, my arm/shoulder gives me alot of pain.  My Left arm is more than 1/2in bigger than the right.. thank you for your response.
