beta blockers

my 17 year old son has CHD. PULMONARY ARTRESIA AND VENTRICAL SEPTAL DEFECT. HE HAD FENESTRATED FONTANE SURGERY IN 1998. IN 2009 HE STARTED HAVING ISSUES AND DOC DISCOVERED THAT THE PACE MAKER IN TOP OF HIS HEART DOESNT MATCH THE PACEMAKER IN THE BOTTOM. HE STARTED HIM ON 400MG OF DRONIDARONE TWICE DAILY. WHEN THE CARDIOLOGIST DOWNLOADED HIS REVEAL YESTERDAY HE DISCOVERED SOME TACKECARDIA? AND AS HE IS ON THE HIGHEST DOSE OF DRONIDERONE HE HAS DECIDED TO PUT HIM ON BETA BLOCKERS. I'M VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE DRUGS AS THEY HAVE VERY BAD SIDE EFFECTS AND WAS WONDERING ARE THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES OUT THERE.

Beta blockers have been extensively studied and used in millions of patients across the world. They are extremely effective medications with proven efficacy in reducing mortality in patients with heart failure, controlling fast heart rates and decreasing the incidence of potentially deadly heart rhythms.

Overall, the majority of people have no problems with beta blockers. Feelings of increased fatigue are common and are in my experience the most common side effect. In addition, it can decrease heart rate so this must be monitored while determining the most appropriate dose.
