birth control pill and hypertension

birth control pill and hypertension

I'm 33 years old and had my second child 6 mons ago.  after pregnancy diagnosed with preeclampsia and hypertension.  started on hctz, labetalol, and procardia - which I was able to wean off of after about 8 weeks.  I started on a BCP at 6 weeks, safe for nursing.  At approximately 4 mons postpartum, signs of hypertension returned which include a sudden, unpredictable feeling of weakness, all over numbness (greater in my left face and arm), and severely elevated blood pressures reading greater then 200/100 at times.  I was restarted on hctz and labetalol, which seemed to work for a while.  But now, I am frequently having episodes of high blood pressure with a return of the symptoms (which seem to be worsening) - requiring that I now take hctz 12.5 2-3x per day, and 300mg of labetalol in the morning, and 400mg at night to control the symptoms.  My doctor just wants to add a 3rd BP med, but I feel that there must be something significant occurring.  I had no problems before my pregnancy.  Could the BCP have caused this?  I did recently quit taking that.  Is there any other ideas?  Please help.
