blockage following bypass surgery

blockage following bypass surgery

I'm a 63 yr. old female, diabetic since age 15, well controlled on an insulin pump.  I underwent triple bypass Aug. 29th because of feeling tired and short of breath.  Thalium stress test and subsequent angiogram showed "hard, calcified plaque" in three arteries 60 - 80% blocked.  Recovery has been good and I'm back to exercising 5 days a week (weights and cardio), golfing, and all activities.  I'm watching my diet carefully.  What are my chances of re-occurance of blockage now?

Well the disease process that caused the blockages in the first place remains, so you must maintain the diabetes and you cholesterol under very good control. HgbA1C under 6 % and LDL under 70, systolic blood pressure under 125 mm HG. Also dietary restrictions to keep your triglycerides under 150 or if diet is not sufficient then start taking niacin.
If you adhere to all of these recommendation then you will have minimized the risk of progression of coronary artery disease. What is your absolute risk? I don't know, but if you follow these points you will have maximized your chance of developing progression of coronary artery disease.
