blood clot

by rs70, Jul 26, 2008 09:36AM
I am a 60 year old male post heart attack 16 months ago. My heart attack was in the LAD and a stent was inserted. This week I had a ct scan with contrasting dye. There were no new blockages and no soft plague, however there is a blood clot in area of the apex where the scar tissue is from the MI . My dr. said there was nothing that could be done about it because at this far out from my heart attack the chances of the clot moving are very low. My concern is there is a chance it could move and I want to be proactive instead of doing nothing. Does anyone know how long a blood clot can linger and not move. I am going to get a second opinion. I would appreciate any information. Thank you.

My gosh, you are in a terrible position, i suffered with 2 blood clots, last year. One in the base of the heart and a clot in my lung. I was given Heparin at first in hospital. Then once out given warfarin these drugs thins your blood. These drugs stop your blood from clotting. The only reason why i couldn't take aspirin because i was allergic to it.
A over the counter drug which you can take is Aspirin, this thin your blood as well. You can take aspirin over a long term. Usually after taking aspirin the clot should dissipate. What i suggest is go onto the internet, research what is the best dosage for you by cross referencing a load of sources (documents) and make up your own mind on the dose. Good place to start is www.drugs.com
