: A 49 yr. old male  has had 3 separate blood clots in his left leg (2 went
to his lung) over the past few years. No cause has been found. He has been
treated with aspirin and coumodin (Sp?). Is this related to his rare form
of arthritis (which is not rheumatoid arthritis)? What kind of doctor should
he see other than his rheumotologist to prevent another clot?
  Thank you.

Dear Sherry,
There are numerous potential causes of "blood clots", to include dyscrasias(abnormalities) of the clotting and declotting system in our blood.
A hematologist is the doctor/specialist that deals with abnormalities of the clotting system.  As a cardiologist answering your question on the web
I can not comment on potential relationships of rare and undiagnosed blood disorders.  The correct spelling of the trade name of the drug warfarin(generic)
is coumadin.
