bypass infection

my mom had quadruple bypass surgery and now the dr's are saying that the incision is "tunneling" and the infection is not going away. she is 81 and diabetic. they placed sponges with drains suctioning out the infection. they may have to go back in and open her up. if anyone can tell me exactly the process please ease my nerves and help me, thank you

i am going through the same thing as your mom. I had my bypass in Jan. Several weeks later I developed a tunnel and infection in my incision. They had to reopen about a 3 in section and I have to pack it 2 times a day. I was also put on antibiotics. It has been 5 weeks now and I have about 2 more weeks until it is healed. It has to heal from the inside out. This doesnt happen very often, in my case I was the only one out of 250 patients this past year. Your mom should be fine. Blessings to you both. Meemsdream
