calcified mitral valve and restricive pericardium

calcified mitral valve and restricive pericardium

I am a 63 year old msle who is due to have an MVR soon.  I have been told the valve is quite calcified and there is some question of restriction in the pericardium as well as pulmonary hypertension.  My symptoms are shortness of breath with activity and fatigue.  The surgaon mentioned the risk of a stroke if caclium were to get away from the heart and travel to the brain.  How common is this?  Is there something that can be done during surgery to prevent this?  I am fearful of having a stroke as my father had one and lived a very limited life after.  What about the pericardial restiction and pulmonary hypertension.  The doctor was not clear on how this would affect suregry.  How would that change my risk for a good result?  Would surgery and  the care afterward, and recovery be expected to be the same?  Should more testing be done before surgery?  Thank you for your time.
