can arrhythmia be herritary?

I am just wondering if arrhythmia is herritary? I went for a second opinion per my pcp she did not agree with the first cardio because I have arrhythmia problem. The first cardio thinks it just stress or caffeine but I do not consume caffeine(hate chocolate) do not drink coffee or soda. Do not have stress in my life unless its everyday normal stress. I did have surgery as a child for asd repair. I do have arrhythmia on my mother side. My mother had her first heart attack at the age of 18 due to high blood pressure and arrhythmia problem been on meds since. Her mother had a pacemaker at the age of 37 and her one brother had one at the age of 32 and other brother just go one put in at the age of 47. Her sister started medication for arrhythmia at the age of 35. My cousin who just turn 21 is going for a pacemaker in two weeks we just found out on Monday. Almost everyone on my mother side of the family have some sort of pacemaker or icd. There is two people who do not have a pacemaker or icd my mother and aunt. My new cardio thinks that I might have the same arrhythmia problem as my mother side of the family and running more test. Will have the cardionet for 21 days. Can this be inherritated? I am on meds for now to control my heart rate and arrhythmia. Once the results comes in he will decide whether medications, ablation, pacemaker,or icd will be right for me. He is concern with my heart rate being so high at times, out of breath feeling and fatigue. Is there certain types of them?

Yes, I think so.. either directly (e,g., wpw or long QT syndrome) or indirectly (many arrhythmias resulting from other heart problems like high BP or MVP and it is these other heart problems which may be hereditary). In your case, your repaired asd may be playing a role in your svt. What do your cardiologists say about the possible connection with the asd?

I also agree that your repaired ASD might be playing a large role in your arrhythmia. I've had a repaired VSD (congenital) and then later on a repaired ASD (patched after a heart tumor removal) and the docs are blaming my SVT on mainly the ASD. They say that the scarring can mess up the electrical system.
Good luck, it sounds like your family has had more than it's share of these troubles.

He not sure if its related to asd or family until the 21 day monitor gets started..Just waiting for my insurance give a ok for the monitor. I should find out by tomorrow if my insurance will cover. I am having the cardionet. It could be the asd or family genetics or both. The cardionet will notify my cardio everyday while I have this on so if there something that doesn't
seem right he will call me he said. More test will be done after the cardionet. He is leaning towards cath or ep study after this. I will know more by the end of the week hopefully.

Forgot to mention that I am 31 year old female and overall health is good. Eat healthy and try to excerise regularly but on hold by my cardiologist until he can control it and figure out what's going on.
