can it return? mi

I was dx w/Id. DCM in 96 because of fen-phen.  I no longer have cardiomyopathy, but have aortic and mitral regurgitation (MIld to mod. aortic, mild mitral)  The thickening that was on these valves has since disappeared.  My question is, can the cardiomyopathy re-appear?  Other than the valves, my heart appears normal, however my ekg's do show changes (HB 1st degree, slow heart rate).  I AM NOT ON ANY MEDS.  The Altace I was taking put my HR in the high 30's.  Thank you so much.  I am a 50 yo female.  I also have a GRade II Blowing systolic murmur.

Dear Kennedy1,

I am glad to hear of the improvement in your heart since after discontinuing the diet drugs. I would suggest the continued use of an ACE inhibitor. There is not a lot of data on what happens to people after stopping these medications. All of the survival data showing benefit is on people who continued using ACE inhibitors. I would discuss this with your doctor, trying a different ACE inhibitor maybe reasonable.

Thanks for your question,
