can you have a heart attack and be ok?

can you have a heart attack and be ok?

off and on for a few weeks i have had a weird numbness type of feeling in my upper arms, it comes and goes. and in the last year, little heart flutters that stop me in my tracks, not so much as hurting, but "what is going on" then it quit. occassionally have been woke up to severe heartburn, but yesterday morning as i was getting ready for work i became suddenly very very nauseous, and my chest (top right) began hurting - similar to the heart burn i have had, but did not experience the heartburn - with 5 min's it had passed.
my question(s) is: could this possibly be something to do w/my heart or indegestion? i didnt tell my husband till later and he tried to scare me into thinking i had experienced a heart attack, but like i said after a few min's i was fine, so i dont feel that is what is was, i mean can you have a heart attack and not know, do nothing about it and be ok?......wouldnt i had died or passed out if it were a heart attack? i would never say i'm too young for one (39) because i know people have them even younger, but i dont want to run to the dr, especially w/no immediate symptoms at the time and look like a hypocondriac.

A heart attack is an event that destroys heart muscle due to lack of blood/oxygen supply to heart cells.  The lack of oxygen causes cell necrosis, but sometimes when treated appropriately within 72 hours the cells may be revived (heart cells were dormant).

A heart attack can be without symptoms, or have symptoms chest pain, etc.  About 5 years ago my first symptoms of having had a "silent" heart attack were symptoms of congested heart failure.  I was shocked to hear from the doctor in ICU that I had had a heart attack sometime in the past.  An attack (myocardium infarction) had impaired the heart wall movement decreasing the amount of blood pumped with each stroke causing blood to backup into the lungs causing edema (congested heart failure).

It could be your heart, indigestion, etc., but your symptoms could have been a heart attack and a cardiologist would not consider your concern frivolous.
