chest pain or neck pain

I am a 33 year old male.  I have ashtma and after 15 years of smoking, I quit 6 months ago.

I recently had severe chest pain, shortness of breath and tingling and numbness in my left arm.  At the hospital, I was told it could of been a slight heartattack.  The EKG was "normal", except for the "extra heartbeat".  The  treadmill/stress test the next day, showed  nothing wrong, except the "extra heartbeat".  Both Drs.  said I should get it taken care of right away. My  regular Dr. is not worried about the "extra heartbeat", however, he order a MRI on my neck, to find the source of the  chest pain. I don't understand the extra beat  and what my neck has to do with my chest pain.
The dr did ask me about neck stiffness and headaches, which I do have.

It does sound like musculoskeletal pain but i recommend that each of you have your symptoms fully evaluated.

Extra beats may have been provoked by the stress  associated with the whole experience.

I am a 39 yr. old female in good health.  Five days ago I experienced severe chest pain around my heart and the left side of my neck.  My hand and feet went cold.  The pain became more and more severe so I ended up calling 911.  My blood pressure (which is normally 110/70) was 177/100.  I was rushed to the hospital and was told my heart was fine but that I had musculoskeletal chest pain caused by inflammation of the heart muscles.  I was put on pain medication.  Five days later I still have pain in my chest though very slight and also pain in my neck.  I am trying to find out more info on this as they said it is possible it could re-occur.  I really thought I was having a heart attack!

Dear Vicki,

this may have been viral pericarditis which is an inflammation of the lining of the heart and can feel like a dagger through your chest.  It is often confused with heart attack.  Nonsteroidal antiinflammatories are the drug of choice and your symptoms should resolve.  You should however have this followed to make sure that this does not recur.

REcurrences are rare but may happen.
