chest pain

I've had chest pain coming and going for about a month now. I spent 3 hours in an ER on an EKG and had some blood tests, the conclusion was that something was wrong but it wasn't life thretining at the time so I should followup with a regular doc.
He had me do a halter test, which found nothing, were now waiting on word back from an chest X-ray this week. However I have also twice now had a new pain that is much sharper, lasts for just a second but is then followed by about 1-2 min of sweating like I just ran a mile. I was born premature, I'm a fairly active but slightly over weight 32 year old male 5'6" and 170 lb. Any idea how to catch this thing? I have to be honist I'm really scared.

I'm sorry to hear you're having so much trouble.  First off, don't worry.  This doesn't sound like anything too concerning.  If your pains are sharp and short lived, it is very unlikely to be your coronary arteries so a heart attack is likely not in your near future.  It could be a transient arrhythmia giving you a fast heart rate for a brief period.  This may be missed on a Holter monitor if you didn't have any events during the time period.  An Event monitor may be better for you as you can hit record on the monitor when you have your symptoms.  There are other possibilities as well, but discuss your concerns with your physician.  If you haven't had an echocardiogram, it may not be a bad idea to rule out something like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.  Hope this helps.
