chest pain

by colette thomas, Dec 18, 1999 12:00AM
Two days ago I had severe indigesion with chest pain, nausa and vomiting. I was given a EKG in the ER and was told that I had a short P-R interval and should have a check up by a cardilogist. What does a short P-R interval mean and what is the relation to the symptoms I experienced. Thank you.

Probably all unrelated. A short PR interval refers to an abnormality in your heart's conduction system. There are several causes and a cardiology evaluation sounds reasonable, in order to decide whether it is anything serious.

Regarding the answer to my question, can a short P-R interval cause chest pain, and palpations/skipped beats?

As an isolated abnormality, it would produce no symptoms, but if it were part of a syndrome such as Wolff-Parkinson-White, it can predispose to arrhythmia and palpitations.

Thank you so very much for the information. I can now go to the doctor and ask the right questions with the research I have done. Thanks again. Happy Holidays!
