chest pains after cardiac catheter ablation

by smak, Oct 19, 2005 12:00AM
i first wanted to thank all the doctors who post here.  this site has been very helpful.

i'm 26 years old and last november (2004) i had a catheter ablation for my SVT, which had been bothering me since about the age of 10.  the procedure went well, and my EP said that everything looked fine.  the next few days after, i started getting these VERY severe pains and cramping in my heart.  i called my EP and went in to his office about 5 days post-procedure.  they did an echocardiogram and  he said everything looked fine.

my question is that, now, almost a year later, i still get what i would call cramping and tightness in my chest.  sometimes it's really mild and just feels uncomfortable.  sometimes it's painful, like heartburn only much higher up.  i'm going to see a cardiologist in a few weeks about it, but i wanted an opinion about why this might be happening.  i never had any chest pains/discomfort from my SVT before the ablation.

i also have MVP with moderate regurgitation.  could this be the cause?

thanks for all your help.

best, sk

smak,

thanks for the post.

The MVP and the MR are not related.  Im not sure what would be causing your symptoms this far out. Initially, some pericardial inflammation from the procedure or a complication of the procedure could have been related but the symptoms this far our are probably not related to the procedure and are most likely non cardiac. You may not have noticed the symptoms as the focus was elsewhere. With the duration of the symptoms lasting this long without any untoward effects makes your prognosis good no matter what they are from.

good luck
