chest spasms

Every once in a long while, I get chest spasms --sometimes it feels like my heart is writhing, sometimes all that happens is that I can't take in a deep breath. I've seen my dr., and she says this is not dangerous. I remember having these pains as long as 20 years ago. In the past year, I've had this occur perhaps 3 times. But the last two times were different, in that they lasted much longer. Yesterday, one persisted for nearly an hour. I'm 45, don't smoke, and am in very good health.
I hope that this is indeed nothing to worry about, but would like to know more about such spasms and why they occur. They don't seem to be at all related to exertion or stress.
