At his age calcification in the aortic valve would have to be most commonly secondary to either a bicuspid aortic valve or undiagnosed rheumatic heart disease. If there is any question about it he can undergo a transesophageal echocardiogram to better ***** the nature of the calcification and whether the valve is tricuspid or not. More importantly however is whether or not he has any aortic stenosis and or regurgitation, and that should be readily apparent from his surface echocardiogram.
Thank you again.
