I am a 54 year old female. No health problems at all. Take no medications. Weight 110, height 5ft. 4 inches.. Walk five miles a day. total cholesterol 255, LDL 126, HDL 116, triglycerides 67. My doctor says my cholesterol is find that I don't need medication because my good cholesterol is so high. but everything I read says that if your cholesterol is over 200 it is bad. Should I be concerned.

Hi Cpont,

If you have less than two cardiac risk factors (smoking, family history, hypertension, diabetes, known increased cholesterol), haven't had a heart attack -- you do not need to be on a cholesterol medication.  You have a great HDL cholesterol.  Based on this you do not need a cholesterol medications.

Hope this helps.

Hi your numbers are darn good!! Your total cholesterol is high because your HDL's are so high. They are part of the total count thereby increasing it. If you calulate your ratios your risk factors are very low.

Oh my!  Count your blessings!!  Can I trade lipid numbers with you?  5 miles per day - woman, your doing just fine!!

Wow, can I trade. These numbers are great especially the HDL number is out of the park. YOur trigs are great as well. I am no doctor but as an informed reader these numbers are impressive despite the high total cholesteral reading.
