congestive heart failure

my mother recently had amassive heart attack. doctors said her heart was only pumping10%. she was brought home and hospice was brought in. they immediately started her on morphine 5mgs every hour. doctors previously said she could have no stress but would have some time left. within a week she was gone. she was asleep most of the time. when she was awake she knew everyone and talked briefly.I was very concerned about the use of morphine but because she was at my sisters house and Iwas told Iwas being nosy, Icouldn't do much. I tried talking to lawyers and other doctors but I ran out of time.What I would like to khow is if the morphine contributed to her death ?

Morphine is commonly used in heart patients when pain control is important.  Many post-surgical bypass patients are given Morphine as they are waking from surgery.  It is also commonly used in end of life care.

With an ejection fraction of 10%, without a transplant (and she would not have been a candidate) death is typically an unavoidable outcome.  Functions at 10% and below are not typically compatible with life.  It was the heart attack that damaged her heart and led to the weakness of the muscle, thus the reduced function.

With CHF everyone is different.  Some people can hang in there with low function for a while, and others last mere days.
