difficulty swallowing 2 weeks after surgery

Good day. I'm a 21 yr old female who just had open heart surgery 2 weeks ago. I have been experiencing trouble swallowing since then. Drinking almost always sends me into a coughing fit (which makes my chest ache) and swallowing pills has become a nightmare (I had no problem with swallowing pills before the surgery). Also, what's strange is that I find solids much easier to swallow than fluids.

Please help.

I had cardiac bypass surgery in NYC over a year ago.. It took a long time- about 13-  months before my swallowing was 'normal.' My advice to you is to see ear nose and throat doctor that specializes in swallowing and voice disorders. In NYC they have an in office test using an instrument called FEESST which allows them to observe the swallowing process in real time using a fiber optic scope.. This will give you the answer to your problem .
