dvt with 3 mutations

by JoJo_55, Oct 16, 2008 12:54PM
I am a 56 old woman.  Nine months after the birth of first child I was diagnosed with Von Willebrand's Disease( I hemorrhaged 2x out of hospital) I missed the first month of her life.  I was 28 at the time.  Six weeks after giving birth, my father died, at the age of 56.  An autopsy was done and it was determined his electrical system  gave out causing his heart to fail.It also it was discovered he had a  massive heart attack in his 30's. My father had no medical records, never went to doctors- he had high threshold for pain.(the coroner thought he was hospitalized for months after his findings, but NO>also he said if he did not quit smoking 12 yrs. earlier ,the smoking may have helped his heart to not skip a beat.  As a child and teenager I had many noose bleeds and heavy( which resulted in  many hospital trips)I would bleed heavily(bath towels filled) nose and mouth. It was nine months after her birth(bleeding vaginally) that I new something major was happening.  I found a new hospital and hematologist. Von Willebrand's it was which was inherited from my father (since my mother did not have it.
After my second child I clotted- with the explanation the baby was pressing on the dvt. I was in the hospital for 3 months-2 months before the birth and 1 mo. after. Then 5 months ago(at age 55) I felt another dvt-same leg. "Confirmed"- I just found out I am heterozygous for the mutation for Factor V Leiden and also heterozygous for the prothrombin mutation  and for methyl hydrofolate reduction mutation. All 3 together  make me prone to thrombosis. p.s. both daughters have bleed problems >one extreme platlete problem with pulmonary stenosis on birth control for bad period bleeds-she also is at least 50 lbs overweight
At this time I am on 10 mg. daily warfain daily- probably for life- with weekly INR tests. Because of my fathers death and all that has gone on am greatly concern.  For my daughters and myself on  coumadin for life; will that be enough  to lead a normal life without stroking out- what are the long term effects of this drug taking into consideration my  father death. What does all this mean>risks and all. What is all this medication doing to me and especially my daughter.
