edema in the feet and calves

edema in the feet and calves

Hi for the past 7 months I have very painful feet and calves, walking is a very difficult task because if the pain I experience.. My question is, does edema necessarily have to be swelling of the legs and feet, or can it just be painful feet and calves with no noticeable swelling. I dont have any swelling but my legs are very painful after I walk. Does anyone have the same calve and feet pain and can point to a cause?..

The word EDEMA is the medical term for swelling, it caused by a collection of fluid in the small spaces that surround the body tissues and organs. Edema can occur nearly anywhere in the body. Most common :
Legs or hands abdomen, chest (called pulmonary edema )
So the answer for your question is no it is not edema if it has no noticeable swelling.
