electrocautery

electrocautery

Hello, my name is Kevin Davidson.  I am a student of Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, and have been assigned a
design project which involves improving or redesigning current methods of
stopping bloodflow in vessels prior to organ removal (such as gall
bladder).  Instead of improving existing endoscopic clip procedures, I
have chosen electrocautery as a method to use.  I was hoping I could find
out some basic info on temperatures needed to seal a vessel and hold blood
pressures up to 140 mmHg, and any other general information about
  electrocautery as well.

Dear Kevin:
I do not know just how hot an electrocautery gets.  A good resource may be the Biomedical Engineering Society.  You may also try checking directly with the manufacturers of electrocautery devices.  If our biomedical engineers here have any more specific information, I will forward it your way.  Good luck with your project.
