enlarged heart

My husband has had two bypass surgeries and has had numerous problems since the second one.  His heart the doctors say is not beating properly.  This has happened before and they are going to give him the electric shock.  He is on Lipitor and his cholesterol is now 112.  The doctor also said his chemistry is excellent and most other tests are good.  The only thing is an enlarged heart and congestive.  I am not sure of what can be done about the enlarged heart and is it reversible or is this fatal.  What should I be expecting.  My husband is 55 years old.  Is this a life threatening situation or is there something we can do to help this.  He will be retiring in four months.
