by Jim-E, Nov 23, 1998 12:00AM

I have been taking 10 mg of vasotck 2 times a day for the last three years. My blood pressure was 175/130 when I started the medication. My last doctor,s vist (11/7/98) my blood pressure was down to 130/70. For the last two months I have experienced tiredness and lacl of breath with any amount of exercise, such as walking up stairs or raking leaves. I have been under somme stress, married of my last daugther, working away from home part of week and now have my fauther inlaw in my house. Can you give me any advice, I also would like to know if the vasoteck amount I am taking is now too high, since my blood pressure is down. Thank you.

Dear Jim, thank you for your question.  The maximum dose of vasotec is 20 mg twice a day so you’re taking an intermediate dose.  Your blood pressure is well-controlled with this dose, so I think you should continue it.  The fatigue and shortness of breath to me sound like symptoms of congestive heart failure but I cannot make a diagnosis in this forum.  As Susie mentions in her response to your posting, your symptoms may be caused by sleep apnea if you snore loudly at night and you are chronically tired during the day.  Additionally, stress may be a contributing factor.   I think you should see your physician for a reevaluation to determine the cause of your symptoms.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies. Please feel free to write back with additional questions.
