My father in law had bypass surgery 3 weeks ago, this has been a difficult transition for us, we are trying to keep him on track with his cardio program but as the daughter inlaw Im afraid to ask the big question, how long does he actually need to stay with us?  He lives one hour from the hospital and rehab center so driving could be an issue.

This is really hard for me to answer.  Typically rehab lasts up to 4 to 6 weeks but that also depends on the progress.  I am sure your husband also has his own opinion regarding this matter as well.

My Cardia Rehab lasted 16 weeks.

Your father-in-law should not drive for at least 8 weeks or until he feels ready.
