fast heart beat after eating a meal

by asoia, Jul 01, 2009 01:03PM
I noticed that for years my heart beats get faster 20-30 minutes from eating a meal, i have done so many diagnostics to the heart, but they couldn't find any thing.  Also some times i would be sleep when I got awaken by my heart, again nothing was found. Some time somthing will tickle in my heart and that cause me to cough, but then again nothing was found. I have done heart test for more than fifteen years now but they found nothing.  What could be happenning?? I don't have high blood pressure.

I am not sure why this is bothering you so much. During digestion there are increased metabolic demands on the body, as a significant portion of your blood has to be directed to the gut for absorption of the nutrients. This, especially in people who may be volume depleted, or have poor liquid intake, or those that tend to eat very large meals, may be achieved by an increase in heart rate of 20-30 beats. I wouldn't worry about this too much, unless you get dizzy or lightheaded with this heart rate increase.

Check the ingredients in what you are eating. MSG- (monosodium glutamate) can cause heart arrhythmia and tachycardia in some people. It is sometimes labeled as a flavor enhancer, autolized yeast, and a host of other names because the gov't calls it GRAS or Generally Recognized As Safe. It is more common than people realize.

Have you had your thyroid checked?  The very first symptom I noticed when my thyroid started dying was that my heart raced everytime I ate.

I sometimes have faster heartbeat or shortness of breath after eating. Usually it is if I eat too much, or if the foods are very acidic. Usually antacid helps, but MSG/salty foods are more aggravating. I suffer from HOCM, which wasn't discovered until I was 35. I would ask your dr. about heart problems.
