fatigue and cold

fatigue and cold

I am a 51 year old male with a family history of heart disease and heart failure. At the age of 15 a coarctation of the aorta was diagnosed, with the symptoms of high blood pressure in the upper half of the body and low blood pressure in the lower portion of the body. The restriction was removed and the Aorta was sewn back together. The only apparent damage was a slightly enlarged heart.
I went on to lead a normal active life which included high school track and military service, it also included moderate alcohol and nicotine consuption.
At the age of 45 after a severe bout of flue and pneumonia I was diagnosed with moderate to severe CHF with EF less than 20%.
Since that time it has been a up and down battle, with the general trend being towards improvement. current EF is at 30-35%.
I no longer consume alcohol and do aerobic exercise 3 times per week. I continue to smoke one and one half packs of cigarettes per day. I have high blood pressure and my current medications are.
VASOTEC      20mg 2xday
NORVASC      10mg 1xday
COREG        25mg 2xday
HYDRALAZINE 100mg 3xday
ASPIRIN           1xday
HYDROCHLOROT   as needed
My question is this, I accept fatigue as a consequence of CHF,
and a reduced blood flow to the body, but can anything be done about being constantly COLD. The chill feels like I am "cold on the inside".
This has been discussed with my doctors and they seem not to know what the origin of this might be, or just dismiss this matter altogether.
Living in the Chicago area, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You
Greg

Being cold might be due to poor circulation, as you suggest. This may be compounded by your medications. It would not, however, be easy to figure out which medicine, if any, is doing this, as you are on several medications to strenghten your heart and control your blood pressure. I would recommend that you stop smoking. This may help.
