further testing needed after ultrasound ?

My new Internist had his technitian perform cartid artery ultrasound in his office 6 months ago. When I returned 3 months later the dr. told me that a cardiologist had read the ultrasound and that it was fine. Now I have seen my Dr. 3 months again later. At the end of the appointment he casually told me,"oh yes, I mentioned to you that you have a 50 to 60 % blockage didn't I ?" I asked him if I should make an appointment with a Cardiologist for further work-up. He immediately stated, "absolutely not, this is nothing"...... you would have to have a blockage of 75 or 80 % before seeing a Cardiologist." I feel this is an absurd answer  and now am suspicious of his motives. Perhaps he doesn't want to lose money on his ultrasound machine and perhaps he is worried about losing a patient. Nevertheless, I want to be in charge of my health in an intelligent way. What is your opinion ?

Based on my similar experiences, your internist is right.
