grafts from chest area/energy

grafts from chest area/energy

I had double bypass surgery in feb 09.....since then recorvery has been slow. Blood pressure pills make me very tired. Have lack of energy. Doctors felt since i was young (48) that they would take the grafts from my chest instead of the leg.  By doing this does the muscle pain in the chest take longer to subside, is there some cases where it takes a patient longer to get back to "normal".

Thank you for answering my question

After a year with a bypass, you should not have the symptoms you express.  Blood pressure medication can cause fatigue...you may want to consult with your doctor to adjust the medication or change.

Fatigue can be caused by a whole array of things, even something as simple as a lack of Iron. The level of exertion you do will also affect the way your body adapts. If for example you do very little exercise for a few months, then you will basically become unfit and unable to do very much. I have seen patients who have been in hospital beds for two or three months and then have physiotherapy to get them moving again because their level of fitness has gone through the floor. Those patients had no heart problems but were sweating and panting with short walks. A strict regime of a 30 min walk each day works wonders. It's a catch 22, the less you do, the worse you will feel. Maybe you do exercise regularly and I'm barking up the wrong tree, but this is one of the most common problems according to my cardiologist.

With fatigue aside, see your doctor to have a checkup. Your surgeon did an IMA graft bypass.  Grafts were internal mammary arteries.  IMA grafts are the most common bypass grafts used, as they have shown the best long-term results. In most cases, these arteries can be kept intact at their origin because they have their own oxygen-rich blood supply, and then sewn to the coronary artery below the site of the blockage. The right mammary artery graft can conveniently be sewn to the right coronary artery and the left IMA graft to the left side.

There may be additional chest pain with IMA, but you should be better and don't unnecessarily exert yourself without consulting a doctor.
