hEART ELECTRICITY

I am a 50 year old female with a heart mummur and what doctors used to call mitro-valve prolapse.  However for over a  year I have had spells of very, very low blood pressure and pulse over 200 for over 4 hours.  I finally went to the emergency room and they said it had to do with the electricity in my heart.  What are the possible medications or procedures to cure this problem?

I'm sorry to hear you're having some heart trouble.  It sounds as if you are having intermittent atrial fibrillation, which is not uncommon in patients with mitral valve prolaps, though I can't say for sure.  If this is atrial fibrillation, there are several medications that can either keep your heart rate and blood pressure under control, or other medications that can actually convert you out of atrial fibrillation into a normal heart rhythm.  Please talk with your cardiologist about your options.  If you are having very low blood pressure with very high heart rates, you need to be treated.  Please contact your physician.

Best of luck to you.
